KEEPING OUR ANIMALS HEALTHY

Over the years,
we have sold all of our "pets" and started purchasing registered animals from reputable breeders. We also implemented a yearly testing program

At Sawyer Farm We:

-Voluntarily participate in the National Scrapie Program
-Terst annually for CAE
-Have never had any cases of inmfectios abscesses (CL)
-Only wam does after kidding, and otherwise when necessary
-Purchase from other breeders that follow similar herd health proacticies.
-Test all incoming animals, as applicable
-Quarantine new herd additions

Caring for The Goats

All of our kids are bottle fed from birth. All kids are given medicated 18% protein feed along with free choice hay, water, and loose minerals. Bucks and wethers are fed a medicated feed along with hay, fresh water, and loose minerals (containing ammonium chloride to help in the prevention on urinary caculitis.)

VACCINATIONS

CD+T is given prior to kidding to the pregnant does. Kids get 1st vaccine at 2 weeks and a booster 21 days later. All goats get CD+T annually.

HOOF TRIMMING

CLIPPING

Animals are checked regularly if hoof trimming may be necessary. The frequency depends on the time of year, feed ration, and individual history of the animal. Clipping usually begins in the spring just before snow season starts. The entire herd will be clipped as time permits. Some animals will receive several clips throughout the spring, summer, and fall. We try not to clip past Labor Day due to cool Michigan weather. Pregnant does get at least an udder belly and behind clip prior to kidding and will then get body clipped as soon as weather permits.
